A round-up of foodie people doing nice things in their communities and beyond.

Blue Grouse Winery | We’re a little late to the party on this one, but for the whole month of April, Blue Grouse Winery is donating $1 for every bottle of Blue Grouse or Quill wines sold to Nourish Cowichan. Better yet, the Brunner family, who own the winery, will match the donation. Last year, they provided 5,000 meals to families in need and let’s be honest, families are in more need than ever this year. Especially in the Cowichan Valley, where the child poverty rate is at a staggering 30 per cent – the second-highest rate in the province. We highly recommend their Ortega, but check out their wines here.  Good on you, Blue Grouse. ⭐⭐⭐

BC Farmers Markets for Low-income Families | The BC Association of Farmers Market, along with MP Gord Johns, is bringing a petition to the House of Commons asking the Government of Canada to expand the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (FMNCP) across the country. The FMNCP provides nearly 16,000 vulnerable families, seniors and pregnant women with weekly coupons that can be used at participating farmer’s markets. There is currently a waiting list in every BC community, which is why the BCAFM is taking it to Ottawa. The petition calls on the federal government to create a matching program to help meet the demand locally and nationally. Head here if you want to sign the petition. A big thanks to the Comox Valley Farmers Market for drawing our attention to this worthy cause. Well done you. ⭐⭐⭐

#StandUpForService | It has been a tough, tough, tough year for the restaurant biz. To give back, the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association wants to recognize those who go above and beyond for their coworkers and guests in their #StandUpForService campaign. If you think someone in the service industry is deserving of an extra air high five, nominate them here. Each Wednesday, a new winner is announced, and they will receive a $100 gift card to Save-On-Foods and a gift from Sumac Ridge Winery. An excellent way to brighten someone’s day. Claps all around. ⭐⭐⭐
